This acid-free Banana Paper Kozo paper base contains heavy banana bark and leaf inclusions. These banana papers are a beautiful and durable addition to your paper and craft collection. They are also an environmentally-conscious paper. Banana trees produce fruit only once a year and are then cut down, leaving abundant waste or by-product. Recycling the fibres from this by-product, into paper, helps to prevent the eco-system’s rivers and forests from becoming polluted with waste.

Huun - the Mayan word for paper, is also the tree that has been used in paper-making for hundreds of years. This ancient practice in the Yucatan was completely lost until 1985, when Project Huun for sustainable community development was initiated. Today, this paper is made by Maya-Yucatec artisans who combine Washi techniques with the ancient techniques of the Mayans. Huun paper is 100% alfa-cellulose, made from selected plant fibres such as Sanseviera (Mother-in-law's Tongue) and Cattail. Both are renewable, their use does no damage to the environment.
Khadi rag papers are made in Karnataka, South India from 100% cotton rag. The cotton rags they use come from T-shirt cuttings, a reliable source of pure woven cotton. Rags are pulped in a Hollander beater. Khadi rag papers are the only handmade papers in India that are a neutral pH and genuinely acid free.
Mango paper is a natural, eco-friendly alternative to ordinary art and craft paper. This recycled paper helps to prevent excess forest and river pollution by utilising the large amounts of fallen leaves and tree fibres to create beautiful lightweight papers. Natural and pigmented leaves from the mango tree are embedded throughout the Kozo pulp base. Each sheet of Thai Mango Paper is 35 gsm and has a neutral pH.
The word papyrus refers both to the writing surface invented by the ancient Egyptians, and the plant used to make this material. Papyrus continued to be used until the eleventh century A.D. even as paper, invented in China, became the most popular writing material for the Arab world around the eighth century A.D. With minor variations, the papyrus roll was produced in essentially the same way throughout its approximately 4,000-year history.
